The Holy Synod shortlisted the three candidates for the Patriarchal throne

Today, 20th June 2024, in the Synodical Palace there was started the procedure of electing the three candidates for the Patriarchal throne in the presence of 14 out of 14 synodical archbishops and with an election commission with the following members:  His Eminence Metropolitan Grigoriy of Vratsa who is also a Deputy of the widowed throne of Sofia Diocese, His Eminence Metropolitan Daniil of Vidin and His Eminence Metropolitan Arseniy of Sliven.

Voting was conducted in 42 rounds. Metropolitan Grigoriy of Vratsa was elected in the first round with 11 votes. Voting continued, as for eligible candidates were also shortlisted Metropolitan Daniil of Vidin with 9 votes (in the thirty-second round) and Metropolitan Gavriil of Lovech with 9 votes (in the forty-second round).
